Valley News Live : Two felony charges against a former substitute teacher in Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton public schools have been dismissed. Tara Nichols was accused of having sex with high school boys. According to court documents, the mother of a DGF High School boy contacted investigators, concerned a substituted teacher was sending her son nude pictures and inappropriate messages. The school district said that upon learning of the investigation, Nichols was suspended and then resigned at the end of January. She had been scheduled to go to trial next Tuesday. Clay County prosecutors cited a Minnesota court rule that allows them to drop a charge without the courts approval. Prosecutor Pam Harris tells Valley News Live the teen involved in this case was not a student under Nichols supervision at the time of the alleged incident.
Tara Michelle Nichols, 39, of Glyndon faces two counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct for engaging in sex with a student who was 17 at the time of the alleged conduct. A parent contacted authorities in January stating her juvenile son was receiving inappropriate messages and pictures from Nichols, who was a substitute teacher at the time. The report began an investigation, which brought to light information from several male students ages 17 and 18 who said they had either received messages from Nichols or had sexual contact with her. The investigation found that only one of the males was 17 years old and a student of Nichols at the time they had sexual contact with each other. According to the complaint, Nichols admitted sending nude photos to a number of juvenile males and having sexual contact with some, including the year-old. The victim also said Nichols had sent him pictures of herself via Snapchat and through text messaging, and that she was nude in some of the photos.
Tara Nichols has not been arrested, but must appear before a judge in April. Court documents say the mother of a DGF High School boy contacted investigators, concerned a substituted teacher was sending her son nude pictures of inappropriate messages. Once police got involved it blew open a situation involving multiple high school boys and an ongoing sexual relationship. The report says a number of male high school students said they had either gotten some of those messages of had sexual contact with Tara Nichols. Valley News Live reached out to the school district, they declined to comment on camera.
To any educator who has inappropriately interacted with a student, or to anyone headed down that path:. Think about what you're doing. Think about the lives you're ruining - your own as well as that of the victim. And we say "victim" because that's what the young person is.
